as far as i understand the terms in arabic, لهجة is accent which is a

way of speaking/pronouncing words by a group of speakers of a certain language compared to another group speaking the same language, so we say لهجة مصرية، لهجة شامية، لهجة خليلية , and لكنة is when a someone speaks in some language in a way that show its not his/her mother tongue! like when germans speak english or frensh speak german or arabs speak english. which is called in english "foreign accent". i suppose one can speak لهجة خليجية with لكنة مصرية !! :) My question is, why is this word in the techdict! what context did it appear in?--Maysara.abdulhaq 16:23, 10 December 2006 (PST) I think you guys are using a totally unrelated meaning. Check the links (dictionaries): Accent: A mark or character used in writing, and serving to regulate the pronunciation; esp.: (a) a mark to indicate the nature and place of the spoken accent; (b) a mark to indicate the quality of sound of the vowel marked; as, the French accents. [1913 Webster] So, in french there are these: Ï è é â á à The accents are those small marks. In that way probably the correct translation is حركة, similar to the arabic ones.
