Please rename this page with an Arabic name and link to it from the Arabic main page then make an empty English version of it(which has the current name)... --Alnokta 10:48, 21 October 2006 (PDT)

أقوم حاليا بحوار مع جمعية المترجمين العرب WATA لدراسة إمكانية بناء آلية تعاونية تتيح تطوير قاموس تقني وفق أسلوب ويكاموس

وربما يجري ربطه مع ويكاموس ولا أدري هل هناك إمكانية لإنشاء نسختين متزامنتين واحدة في أرابايز والأخرى في wataonline.net

TODO

  • Special box of alphabet.
  • Terms index under each letter. I don't understand this? --Djihed 19:53, 9 December 2006 (PST)
  • Merge essential.po to letter_?.po and remove essential.po
  • Write a clearer guide
  • Update the Arabic guide
  • special info box (recent changes, urgent words, etc).
  • Explain why we're doing the whole project, clearly.
  • Typos in the resources part. (Resources, Google Search). Too late :( but I will take note when importing more words.--Djihed 05:55, 10 December 2006 (PST)
  • Suggest more resources here:
* معجم مكتب تنسيق العريب
* الجمعية العلمية السورية للمعلوماتية
* معجم مجمع اللغة العربية بالقاهرة
  • Clear release schedule.

Why مواقع مختلفة? Don't you think المواقع المختلفة is more correct? --Djihed 05:55, 10 December 2006 (PST)

Discussion Language policies

What is the policy regarding discussion language of the techdict? i suggest both arabic and english should be allowed, if not arabic encouraged.--Maysara.abdulhaq 06:15, 10 December 2006 (PST)

External Links, should this be templated ?

If the external links like those in the techdict article abort will be a standard in each article, i think they should be templated, should this be done, or would it be selective links, note that if we template a group we can still add some additional links to specific articles.--Maysara.abdulhaq 06:19, 10 December 2006 (PST)

Maysara, yes. Please do template it. Not the other suggestions ^^ up made by chahibi. Yes, they are the same across all words. --Djihed 06:31, 10 December 2006 (PST)
In this case, will links contains the term as a search request (ex: Foldoc) ? --Chahibi 10:01, 10 December 2006 (PST)
if i got your question right, yes, they will.--Maysara.abdulhaq 10:57, 10 December 2006 (PST)

OK, things are up and running, but how to discuss?

My suggestion: In the discussion page, one should cite the reasons why he prefers this term, other can reply, support with other reasons ... The article page should include all discussed terms. Votes should go under each term using a signature.

ex:

  • حاسوب

--Karim

--Fuad

  • كمبيوتر

--Ammar

  • عقل إلكتروني

--Yasser

In this case, since حاسوب is the favourite: {Translated:حاسوب}

--Chahibi 10:07, 10 December 2006 (PST)

basically im ok with the suggestion, although the main page could be kept clean with a notice that the term is being discussed in the talk page, but this way is fine too, except that i suggest that votes should be both "with term" and "against term", but there goes another question, are the translation decided on highest vote numbers (total in this case) or by majority of voters (voting might take long time in that case, but i think its healthy)?--Maysara.abdulhaq 10:42, 10 December 2006 (PST)
Is it possible to use arabic names for commands ( in order to have {ترجمة:حاسوب} for example, rather than {Translated:حاسوب} ? --Abderrahim 12:12, 11 December 2006 (PST)
Good suggestion, here is a test:
Arabic.png
It is a bit problematic though (at least with Arabic epiphany on linux), as the order of the name of template and the word need to be reversed. Use at your own risk. I prefer the other template, as there is only *one* right to left space to fill. --Djihed 12:58, 11 December 2006 (PST)
I don't see any problems, I'm using epiphany (but not arabic :-p , yes I shouldn't)--Abderrahim 13:21, 11 December 2006 (PST)
It's not the only problematic thing, the epiphany editor widget's bidi is not that good (It's from gecko I suppose) --Abderrahim 12:08, 12 December 2006 (PST)

Please switch all A-words to the new template

Remove the resources header and all links, and add {{template:Word Reference|WORD}}. Thanks Maysara :D --Djihed 11:41, 10 December 2006 (PST)

This doesn't work with expressions containing spaces (see Adaptive learning )--Abderrahim 13:16, 11 December 2006 (PST)
There is a workaround, in URL's spaces are translated as %20, so fill the space with %20 and you should be set :). Note the Adaptive learning link :) --Djihed 13:26, 11 December 2006 (PST)
you were faster, I found another one fill the space with + --Abderrahim 13:30, 11 December 2006 (PST)

I don't like all those colors --Chahibi 04:45, 16 December 2006 (PST)

haha, I don't very much either. I admit I'm poor at selecting colors, at any rate feel free to edit them!

template for terms that should be removed

There are many terms that should be removed, ex. techdict:Umount as this is a unix command line tool and shouldn't be translated. I think we need a template for this to notify modes. --Hosny 07:43, 19 December 2006 (PST)

yes, and we need templates for "still being discussed and open for suggestions" and for "Translated and agreed on" and "translated, not discussed" which would be the default case other that untranslated, i find hard time picking template names and how they should look. any suggestions?--Maysara.abdulhaq 08:33, 19 December 2006 (PST)

I (--Chahibi 09:01, 19 December 2006 (PST)) suggest:

  • Untranslated
  • Being discussed
  • Agreed on

شرح للمصطلحات

ما رأيكم في إضافة شرح للمصطلحات؟ يمكننا عمل قالب بسيط {{Description|Long description of the term blah blah ..}} بهذا يمكني توضيح الكثير، أعلم أن هذه مرحلة متقدمّة لكن لم لا نبدأ الآن؟ :) --Hosny 22:02, 21 December 2006 (PST)

فكرت في نفس الشيء، لكن ليس الآن. فكيف لنا أن نشرح كلمات بكلمات أخرى لم نتفق عليها؟ --Chahibi 09:35, 22 December 2006 (PST)
Hosny, that's a good idea. Youssef, the descriptions needn't be from the tech dict itself, and if they have to be, no problem, it triggers yet more translations =) --Djihed 10:41, 22 December 2006 (PST)
I agree considered we put a link to any term we use in the description.

example:

Plaintext: النص الواضح نص يمكن للجميع قراءته لأنه غير مشفّر.

naming standards

I noticed that there is no standard policy in capitalizing words, for example there is "Zoom Out" and "Zoom in" ! what do you prefer, it would be better to use one standard way, or at least a clear set of rules.--Maysara.abdulhaq 11:01, 22 December 2006 (PST)

I think it all should be lower case, zoom in and so, but I think wikimedia capitalize 1st letter, isn't it? --Hosny 18:46, 22 December 2006 (PST)
